At the end of the first month of the Winter phase of our club virtual championship, the weather has finally broken (for a few days at least) so we have some scores on the board.
The Winter phase is an opportunity to race over 5k, 5-mile and 10k on a route of your choice, with the best 2 performances being counted. The Winter phase continues to the end of March so you’ve got plenty time to get racing... but don't leave it too late.
So far we’ve had some of the usual suspects and some new members competing.
Roisin Murray and Celine Addie-Lagorio are the first 10kers for the women in 52:23 and 1:11:54, respectively. Rosemary Gallagher has completed the 5k (24:29) and the 5-mile (42:18) distances, putting her in top spot so far with Roisin in 2nd and Celine, 3rd.
In the Handicap, Rosemary is also top being the only woman to complete 2 events so far. Her 5k and 5-mile Handicap times are 17:38 and 30:27. Roisin’s 10k Handicap time of 36:02 puts her slightly ahead of Celine in 36:31.
Martin Hawksey is our fastest male over 5k with his 19:42, followed by Malcolm Hughes, as always, quietly going about knocking off the races, and 2nd fastest with his 21:56 5k time. Neil Anderson has in true Neil Anderson fashion, already completed all three distances! Neill has completed his 5k of 22:00, 5-mile in 35:59 (2nd fastest) and the only men’s 10k time logged, in 45:07. Malcolm Hughes completed his 5-mile effort in the current fastest time of 35:38. Good to see Colin Sumpter is back to racing (virtually) and completed his 5k in 22:33. Currently, Malcolm and Neil are joint top with Martin and Colin chasing.
In the Handicap, Neil has a slender lead as his lone 10k (37:44) putting him top, and his 5-mile is the fastest Handicap (30:06), with Malcolm second (21:56 5k, 30:14 5-mile) and then Martin (17:49 5k) and Colin (18:08 5k).
Still all to run for until the end of March.
