Virtual Club Championship - Summer Results!

We have now come to the end of both our summer virtual series and our overall virtual series for 2021.

Before we get to the results. Many thanks to all who have participated and helped to keep the running and (virtual) racing going over the last year. We are now starting to see events come back on the calendar and we expect to be back to our usual Club Championship competition for 2022.

In the women’s competitions, quite a few 10-mile performances to count. Clair Howison ran 1:21:33 to sneak the fastest 10-miler by just 2 seconds from Charlotte Moran. Mandy Cazes was just a minute or 2 behind in 1:23:18, and then Gayle Hamilton in 1:25:25. Roisin Murray makes up the last of the 10- milers with her 1:30:34.

There are some very speedy milers out there with Gayle Hamilton running 6:35 for the fastest mile time and Charlotte Moran added to her previous 3k and 10-miler with her 7:21. Roisin Murray added to her 10-miler with a 14:31 3k.

Our Summer female results are: 1st – Clair Howison, Joint 2nd - Charlotte Moran & Gayle Hamilton and 3rd - Mandy Cazes

Not much change for the men’s side as Paul Dudchenko finished off his virtual season in 1:14:07 for 10 miles and 6:35 for the mile. Alastair McFarland joined in the virtual running for the first time with his 14:30 3k.

Our Summer female results are: 1st – Martin Hawksey, 2nd - Geoff Pendrill and 3rd - Scott Cumming

In the Handicap competition, Roisin Murray’s equivalent 1:08:39 for 10 miles was the fastest with Clair Howison’s 1:09:24 2nd and Mandy Cazes’ 1:12:16 3rd. Gayle Hamilton’s handicap time was 1:15:12 for her 10 miles, however, Gayle has got some great speed in her legs with her equivalent 5:48 mile for the fastest handicap. We had a dead tie for the handicap 3k with both Roisin Murray and Clair Howison at 11:00 flat. Mandy Cazes the only other new time with her equivalent 12:02. Charlotte Moran finished off her series with her 6:43 mile.

Our Summer Handicap female results are: 1st – Roisin Murray, 2nd - Clair Howison and 3rd - Gayle Hamilton

For the men, Paul Dudchenko’s handicap mile time was 5:31 and his 10-mile was 1:02:11.

Our Summer Handicap male results are: 1st – Neil Anderson, 2nd - Geoff Pendrill and Joint 3rd - Scott Cumming and Paul Dudchenko

Well done again to everyone who has competed, improved and logged their efforts. We’ll be announcing the overall winners for the overall Club Virtual Championship shortly. Watch this space.

The return of the Linlithgow 10k!

This Weekend saw the much-anticipated return of the Linlithgow 10k. The 2021 race promised a fresh approach With a new-ish team at the helm but still retaining its focus on the community.

The race didn’t disappoint. In complete contrast to the washout of 2019, the sun was out this year making for hot conditions for runners. It was also another record turnout for the Club, both in terms of those running but also for members who were part of the army of volunteers who helped put on a first-class running event. All in all, a perfect day to remember former 10k Race Director Graeme ‘Spikey’ Lawson.

For the 4th year, Central Athletic Club’s Alastair Hay (00:31:31) was the fastest male runner. For the 3rd year, Edinburgh Athletic Club’s Rebecca Burns (00:37:55) was the fastest female finisher. In the Fun Run, Mark Pashley took first place (00:07:12) for the boys and Jemma Macleod of Cumbernauld Amateur Athletics Club for the girls (00:07:51), and also a 2019 winner.

For Linlithgow AC, Martin Hawksey and Mairi Watts were the first home for the Club. Again, for the 3rd year, Mairi has finished fastest woman for the Club, showing great consistency, especially given the lack of racing of late.

In age categories, Frances Wood (00:50:10) finished 1st V60. In the Fun Run, 23 of the Club’s junior runners took part. James Ellis was the first boy home for LAC (00:08:29) and Cori Outram first for the LAC girls (00:09:21).

The remaining LAC finishers were as follows. Lynsey Hay finished in 42:36 (4th overall woman), Scott Hyslop in 44:32, Jude Moir in 44:59, Malcolm Hughes in 45:08, Ian Boxall in 45:15, Scott Cumming in 46:10, Colin Hutcheon in 46:41, Neil Halliday in 47:39, Liam Cavin in 49:41, Roisin Murray in 49:43, Claire Jamieson in 51:11, Louisa Cockburn in 51:45, Tracy Curle in 52:26, Claire Rice in 52:28, Salma Windle in 53:18, Martin Maclennan in 53:46, David Mumford in 53:53, Tara Bruce in 55:17, Graham Burrows in 55:35, Helen Boxall in 56:10, Alex Wood in 58:03, Shona Banks in 59:13, Caroline Munro in 01:05:14, Roddy Simpson in 01:05:23, Alison Marven in 01:12:06, Roberta Whyte in 01:13:10, Linzi Matheson in 01:25:49 and Celine Addie-Lagorio in 01:25:50.

Last but not least, well done to our pacers John Redding, Martin Maginnis, Paul Dudchenko, Neil Anderson, Kathryn Holm and Yvonne McHugh. All showed great restraint to get in on time and resist the urge to race!

Until next year, over and out.

You’ll find the full results at Perfect Timing Scotland.

Virtual Club Championship - Summer update

The Summer phase of our Club Virtual Championship series is underway. We have had times on the board in all 3 distances…

Charlotte Moran is currently leading the women with her 13:09 3km and 1:21:35 10-miler. Clair Howison has the fastest 3km so far in 12:56, and Gayle Hamilton in 3rd with her 13:15 3km.

In the Handicap, the same order with Charlotte’s handicap times of 12:00 and 1:14:29. Clair with the fastest 3km handicap of 11:00 and Gayle in 11:40. But as we saw in the Spring pahse, it can all change…

For the men, Martin Hawksey currently leads the way courtesy of his 5:46 mile and 1:04:14 10-miler. Geoff Pendril is 2nd after a 7:01 mile, a 12:08 3km and a 1:13:38 10-miler. Neil Anderson is in 3rd, also having done all 3 with a 6:32 mile, 13:02 3km and 1:18:34 10-miler. Graham Chambers is in the hunt with a 12:13 3km and 1:21:21 10-mile. David Reade has the fastest 3km so far in 11:52, Scott Cumming is on the board too with his 12:27 3km and also Paul Dudchenko just behind Scott with 12:39.

In the men’s Handicap, it’s Neil Anderson leading the way with maximum points so far, with his equivalent 5:00 mile and 1:00:12 10-mile. Martin Hawksey is in 2nd with a 5:42 mile and 1:03:35 10-mile, Geoff Pendril 3rd with a 5:56 equivalent mile and 1:02:15 10-mile. Again, Graham Chambers is in hot pursuit with his handicap 10:14 3km and 1:08:09 10 mile. David Reade, as well as the fastest 3km also has the fastest handicap 3km of 9:56, with Scott Cumming and Paul Dudchenko’s handicap 3km times of 10:27 and 10:37, respectively.

All to run for folks as we approach the final month of virtual racing… hopefully for a long while!

Virtual Club Championship - Spring Results!

As it seems to be the way now, lots of last-minute entries for the spring phase of the virtual club championships… and changes to our leaderboards…

In the women’s competition, we’ve had as many entries in the last week as were already on the table.

Lynsey Hay has continued from her winter phase win with dominant performances in both the 3km and 10km. She ran 12:17 and 42:43, respectively, for the fastest female times for both distances, taking top spot in the process - well done, Lynsey.

Charlotte Moran, like Lynsey, ran a fast 3km/10km double with 12:39 and 46:47, respectively, for the overall 2nd fastest times for each. This means that despite Clair Howison’s 10km of 50:12 and also having the fastest half she’s pushed down the table into joint 2nd with Charlotte - well done to both. It would have been a great 3km race between the top 3 here.

Gayle Hamilton is running well too with her 3km/10km double (seems to be the popular choice!) of 12:56 and 48:31, respectively. Roisin Murray has also been busy with all 3 distances - with a 13:57 3km, 56:21 for 10km and 1:58:50 half. Lastly, Tracy Curle added her 3km with a great run of 14:07. So, all this means…

Our Spring female results are: 1st – Lynsey Hay, 2nd – Charlotte Moran and Clair Howison

For the men, no one has been able to shift the 2 Martins at the top, however, there have been last-minute changes…

Martin Hawksey ran a few seconds faster in the 3km with 10:58, however, this does not change the table. Geoff Pendrill’s persistence has paid off with his final attempt at the 3km, dipping under 12 minutes for 11:53 which, along with his 44:24 10km has dragged him up to 3rd place overall - well done, Geoff.

Paul Emery is another 3km/10km double with 12:05 and 44:55, respectively. David Reade has taken time out from his 100-mile weeks (!) to run all 3 events: 13:03 (3km), 44:50 (10km) and 1:52:54 (Half). Malcolm Hughes added to his 3km with the 3rd fastest 10km time of 44:04 to be the first of 7 athletes in the 44-minute range.

Scott Cumming smashed his 10km PB with 44:43, and just 1 second ahead of Paul Dudchenko, with Graham Chambers only 4 seconds down in 44:48. It would have been a great race. In the half, Graham Chambers ran 1:52:21 to continue his great recent form. So, for the men…

Our spring male results are: 1st - Martin Maginnis, 2nd – Martin Hawksey, 3rd - Geoff Pendrill

In the Handicap, lots of changes to the top of the female handicap table.

Gayle Hamilton’s 3km/10km double (8:35/32:13) has rocketed her to the top of the table - well done, Gayle.

Tracy Curle with her 9:49 3km handicap manages to hold onto 2nd but has to share it with Roisin Murray who’s triple entry of 9:30 (3km)/38:24 (10km)/1:20:56 (Half) means she’s on the podium too.

Charlotte Moran is obviously running well with her 9:49 (3km) / 36:17 (10km) but unfortunately not enough for a podium. Lynsey Hay’s handicap times are 10:19 (3km) and 35:52 (10km) and Clair Howison 10km is 38:48.

Our Spring Handicap female results are: 1st – Gayle Hamilton, Joint 2nd- Tracy Curle and Roisin Murray

No change to the top of the male handicap with Scott Cumming taking the win, largely down to his 10km handicap of 32:45.

Other results, namely Geoff Pendrill’s 2nd fastest 3km handicap (9:29) and Scott Cummings times, knock Martin Maginnis down to joint 2nd with Martin Hawksey.

Remaining handicap times: Martin Hawksey 9:55 (3km), David Reade 10:20 (3km) / 35:30 (10km) / 1:29:25 (Half), Graham Chambers 34:59 (10km) / 1:27:45 (Half), Malcolm Hughes 37:23 (10km), Paul Emery 10:30 (3km) / 39:00 (10km).

Our Spring Handicap Male results are: 1st – Scott Cumming, Joint 2nd – Martin Maginnis and Martin Hawksey

We’re now onto the 3rd and final phase of the club’s Virtual Championships. The summer phase will be mostly about speed over 1 mile, 3km but how fast can you go over 10 miles? Can you improve on your recent efforts? The final phase will also decide our first-ever and hopefully last LAC Virtual Champions.

Virtual Club Championship - Spring update (5)

Last few days of competition in the Spring series. You have until Wednesday 30th June to run your virtual race. We’ll count your best effort.

Only Clair Howison has added her speedy 3km effort in 12:45 (handicap 9:51) for the women since the last update. This now gives her 100 points in the 3km for both the Scratch and Handicap. This puts her to the top of the table with a maximum of 200 points and pushes Mandy Cazes down to 2nd - well done, Clair.

For the men, it’s the 3km that’s the popular event with 10 entrants and athletes having had multiple attempts. However, considering it’s the popular one, you’d better run fast if want the points.

Geoff Pendrill has had a few more goes with his fastest now 12:04 (9:37 handicap). Martin Maginnis still holds the fastest time of 10:49 (9:40). Scott Cumming has had another go too with his 12:21 (9:03) and a PB for him, and was just ahead of Graham Chamber’s first effort of 12:31 (9:47). Ian Fyfe ran 12:47 (10:48) and David Mumford 14:09 (10:24).

Martin Maginnis has blown the 10km field apart with a very impressive 10km PB of 37:32 (33:33), which when combined with his 3km effort puts him top with maximum points. It also looks like Scott Cumming is doing something right too as he’s taken a big chunk off his half-marathon time, down from 1hr 45 to 1hr 42 (handicap of 1:15:01) - well done, Scott.

In the handicap, Clair Howison is also top but has to currently share that spot with Tracy Curle, with both on 198 points. For the men, it’s Scott Cumming who is the mover with his faster 3km and his half too, moving him from 2nd to top of the pile. Martin Maginnis, with his fast 10km moves to 2nd pushing Martin Hawksey to 3rd.

All still to run for in the last 3 days of competition. Don’t forget to submit your times through the Virtual Club Championship page or it won’t count.

So, the handicap as it stands…

Virtual Club Championship - Spring update (4)

With 10 days to go before the end of the spring virtual race series a few more entrants but looking like there will be a flurry of activity in the last week…

A reminder to all entrants that the runs should start and finish in around the same place as either an out and back or a loop of no less than 1km.

For the women, two more half marathon performances: Mandy Cazes ran 1:50:02 for the current 2nd fastest half marathon time, with Rosemary Gallagher not far behind in 1:52:56. But Clair Howison remains the fastest women over 13.1 miles! Mandy followed up her half with what is currently the fastest 10km for the women in 49:19, knocking Claire Rice of the top spot. Tracy Curle ran 50:58 and Rosemary Gallagher in 51:15. This means Mandy is now the overall leader and Tracy is now tied into second alongside Rosemary - our top 3 women have completed 2 or more events, so all to run for in the final week.

For the men, Geoff Pendril has improved on his 3km time to 12:18 (from 12:27) however this is not enough to move him up the table. Geoff also ran a faster half time in 1:41:16 (from 1:44:06) but again, unfortunately due to others efforts, it’s not enough to keep him dropping down to 3rd - great effort nevertheless! Paul Dudchenko ran what is currently the 2nd fastest half in 1:34 51, pushing him up the table into 2nd and David Mumford has entered the tables with a 10km effort of 51:48. Martin Hawksey remains our overall leader for now.

In the handicap, Tracy Curle’s 10km (35:26) means she is now the overall leader for the women with Mandy Cazes in 2nd with her 10km (36:44) and half (1:22:05) performances. Rosemary, having also now ran 2 events puts her in 3rd, with her 10km (36:55) and half (1:21:19)

For the men, Geoff Pendril’s quicker 3km (9:49 handicap) and half (1:20:46) means he keeps his podium spot for now, fending off Paul Dudchenko with his half (1:20:03). David Mumford has a solid 10km handicap of 38:04.

Still plenty to run for and remember to submit your times through the Virtual Club Championship page. You’ll also find details on how the scoring system works and how the handicaps are calculated.

So, the handicap as it stands…

Virtual Club Championship - Spring update (3)

Just over 3 weeks of spring virtual races and the virtual championship tables are filling up. The ladies are still playing it cool but there has been a flurry of activity in the male table.

Mandy Cazes is the first to run the 3k in 13:29 and so takes 100 points so far. Claire Rice is currently the fastest 1over 10km with her 49:49 (nice symmetry) with Gayle Hamilton just behind with 51:40. Tracy Curle has joined Clair Howison on the half marathon table with her 1:54:17. This means there is a 3-way tie at the top for the ladies so still all to race for.

Changes in the men’s table as the Martin’s get to work. Martin Maginnis has put down the fastest 3km (10:49) and Martin Hawksey the fastest 10km (38:01). Martin Hawksey’s 3km was not too shabby either in 11:03 with the other 3km entrant Malcolm Hughes with 12:20.  Paul Dudchenko added to his 3km with a 44:44 (again, nice symmetry) 10km time and Geoff Pendrill has completed the trio now with his 45:02 10km, however due to what is now being called the “Martin Effect”, he has not been able to hold his previous overall lead.

That means Martin Hawksey rises to the top, Geoff drops to second and Paul Dudchenko is now third but there is a close chasing pack.

In the handicap, again the ladies are tied 3 ways with Tracy Curle (1:19:28 handicap half), Gayle Hamilton (34:18 handicap 10km) and Mandy Cazes (10:04 handicap 3k) who all have 100 points from these races. Claire Rice’s handicap 10 time is 34:54.

For the men, It’s Martin Hawksey who is also top. His 3km and 10km handicap times were 10:00 and 34:24, respectively. Other Martin’s 3km time was 9:40 and Malcolm Hughes’ 10:28. Geoff Pendrill’s 10km handicap of 35:55 keeps him in on the podium so far and Paul Dudchenko’s 37:45 keeps him in the running too.

Still plenty to run for and remember to submit your times through the Virtual Club Championship page. You’ll also find details on how the scoring system works and how the handicaps are calculated.

So, as it stands…

Virtual Club Championship - Spring update (2)

We are now just past the mid point of the window to compete in the spring edition of the virtual club championships and we have a few more performances to update. Remember, you have until the end of June to run a 3k, 10k or half marathon.

Clair Howison is the first female to put her racing shoes on and she has done so by tackling the half marathon in a great time of 1:45:23 (1:21:26 handicap). This means she has 100 points for both competitions and sits proudly at the top. The women seem to be playing things close to their chests and soaking up all the possible training time before their virtual performances - don’t leave it too late!

Geoff Pendril has pushed everyone down a place with his 12:27 3km and 1:44:06 half marathon taking 100 and 99 points, respectively (9:56 and 1:23:01 handicap). He now sits top of the scratch table. Neil Anderson added to his 3km and 10km efforts with a 1:47:18 (1:29:45 handicap) half, but unfortunately, it’s not enough to see him lose the top spot at this point. Ian Fyfe has entered the game with his solid 45:15 (38:15 handicap) 10km performance to be the current fastest 10k’er. Paul Dudchenko has started small with his 12:56 (10:55 handicap) 3km and I’m sure we’ll be seeing the longer efforts from him soon where his mountain legs can take advantage.

In the handicap this means that Scott Cumming retains his lead, with Neil Anderson 2nd (albeit with a few less points) and now Geoff Pendril’s runs put him above Martin Hawksey into 3rd place.

Still plenty to run for and remember to submit your times through the Virtual Club Championship page. There are also updated details on how the scoring system works and how the handicaps are calculated.

Virtual Club Championship - Spring update (1)

We’re back with the 2nd round of club championship virtual races. The weather is hotting up and for the next 3 months, until the end of June, you have the opportunity to virtually race over 3km, 10km and a half marathon.

As we reach the end of the first month of the Spring competition and we have a few entries to report.

The ubiquitous Neil Anderson is once again leaping to the top of the table early on having raced both the 3km and the 10km with times of 12:40 and 48:56, respectively. He earns 100 points each (so far) for these. Scott Cumming has also already completed 2 events with a 12:48 3km and an impressive 1:47:54 half marathon for a personal best time and sits in 2nd - well done Scott. Martin Hawksey has laid down a very strong half marathon contender with a very impressive 1:25:49. I think that one will take some beating…

In the Handicap, it’s Scott Cumming who is joint top with handicap times of 9:23 and 1:19:02 for his 3km and half marathon, respectively. Neil Anderson’s 3km (10:36) and 10km (40:58) means he shares the lead with Scott, with Martin Hawksey’s adjusted 1:17:39 the fastest handicap time for the half marathon distance. Martin sits in 3rd overall.

So, as it stands…

Virtual Club Championship - Winter Results!

A fantastic final week of virtual racing with around 40 individual performances to add to the leaderboards. Some very close racing with just a few seconds separating some results, and others being unable to be separated.

What a competition amongst the women, with the top 3 5km times separated by only 10 seconds. Lynsey Hay complemented her fine 5-mile run with an impressive 20:23 5km. Kathryn Holm was hot on Lynsey’s heels with her own 20:30 5km. Meaning Lynne McGill was now 3rd fastest 5km (but only just, at 20:34).

However, Lynne responded by recording the 2nd fastest 5-mile time of 34:17. Karen Duncan ran the 3rd fastest 5-mile time, in 37:23; following it up with a 22:54 5km too.

As a reminder, Kathryn Holm put down the fastest 10k in 43:57, Clair Howison 2nd in 48:06 with Claire Rice 3rd in 49:04.

The remaining women's results: [5km] Charlotte Moran 22:40, Roisin Murray 24:50, Tracy Curle 25:06, Gayle Hamilton 23:36, Linzi Matheson 30:27, Gillian McDonald 31:13. [10km] Mandy Cazes 50:39, Tracy Curle 52:44, Linzi Matheson 1:04:52, Gillian McDonald 1:05:15.

For the men, Chris Duffy ran the fastest 5km in 18:45, just 11 seconds faster than Martin Maginnis’ 18:56, who responded with the fastest 10km in 39:30.

To show that it really could be anyone’s on any day, Martin Hawksey ran the fastest 5-mile in 31:38; meaning 3 different men finished top of each distance.

Paul Emery ran the second-fastest 5-mile, in 35:33 (Just 5 seconds quicker than Malcolm Hughes' and Paul Dudchenko's times of 35:38).

The remaining men's results: [5km] Paul Emery 21:51, Graham Chambers 23:01, David Mumford 25:31. [5-mile] Graham Chambers 37:33, David Reade 38:11, Scott Cumming 38:19, David Mumford 43:46. [10km] Graham Chambers 49:34.

So, after all that who were our Winter champions?

And the men: Chris Duffy and Martin Maginnis tied first place, with Martin Hawksey in 3rd.

Now onto the Handicap competition

Chris Duffy’s 5km performance was the best handicap time (16:50) pushing Martin Maginnis back into 2nd (16:56) with Scott Cummings 17:00 in third.

In the 5-mile it was Scott who ran the fastest handicap (28:04) with Martin Hawksey’s time 2nd (28:37) and Graham Chambers in 3rd (29:20).

The 10km, it was Martin Maginnis’ fantastic time that tops the 10km handicap leader board (35:19) pushing Chris Duffy down to 2nd (36:17) and Martin Hawksey 3rd (37:06).

The remaining results: [5km] Graham Chambers (17:59), David Mumford (18:45), Paul Emery (18:58). [5-mile] David Reade (30:14), Paul Emery (30:52), David Mumford (32:10). [10k] Graham Chambers (38:43).

Gayle Hamilton ran the fastest handicap 5km in an equivalent 15:40. Kathryn Holm took 2nd fastest 5km (16:22) with Roisin Murray 3rd (16:55).

It’s now onto the Spring stage of our Virtual Championships. 3 more distances to choose from: 3km, 10km and Half Marathon distance. The same rules.

Happy running folks.

Virtual Club Championship - Winter update (3)

Spring looks to have sprung a lot of you into action with a flurry of new entries this week. Some great performances to update you on...

... and remember, you’ve still got until the end of the month to get your 2 runs in. The countdown is on!

First up, some impressive performances from the LAC woman this week. Lynsey Hay continues where she left off last year running a cracking time of 33:25 making her the fastest over 5 miles so far (both male and female). Lynne McGill also showing her stuff over 5k with her 20:34, the fastest female 5k time. Kathryn Holm also stepped onto the leaderboard with the fastest 10k of 43:57. Clair Howison has moved to the top of the leaderboard with her 48:06 10k performance, adding to her 5k last week. Claire Rice now takes 2nd spot with her 39:42 for 5-mile and 49:04 for 10k, pushing Rosemary Gallagher down into joint third with Mandy Cazes who this week ran 24:44 for 5k and 40:50 for 5-mile. Last but not least, Joyce Tannihill completed this week's ladies runs with her 25:08 5k.

In the Handicap, it’s Claire Rice who sits clear at the top with a maximum of 200 points from her 5-mile (27:49) and 10k runs (34:23). Rosemary Gallagher now in 2nd with Clair Howison (37:10 10k) in third.

For the men, Martin Maginnis continues his form with an impressive 18:56 5k for the fastest 5k so far (and fastest handicap in 16:56). Martin Hawksey had a second 5k attempt and improved to 19:30 (from 19:42), and remains the 2nd fastest over 5k. Chris Duffy's 40:25 is currently the fastest 10k with Martin Hawksey close behind with his 41:09. Paul Dudchenko ran 21:44 5k on his 2nd attempt to now sit top of the table, however, he has to share it with Martin Hawksey. Malcolm Hughes added a second attempt 5k at 21:54 and a 10k in 45:12, but can't stop being pushed down to 3rd. Ian Fyfe’s 5k split Paul and Malcolm in 21:50 to add to his 5-mile time. David Main-Reade also ran 10k in 49:25. Over the 5mile, Geoff Prendrill added to his 5k with a run of 37:13, as did Scott Cumming with 39:22.

In the Handicap, it’s Scott Cumming who now sits at the top with his impressive 5k and 5-mile runs (Handicap 17:00 and 28:50). Martin Hawksey’s pace over 5k (17:39) and 10k (37:14) put him second and it’s Geoff Pendrill's 5-mile (29:41) that now puts him 3rd. It’s close down the rest of the board though.

Lots to run for with just over a week to go… don’t forget to submit your times using our form and good luck.

Virtual Club Championship - Winter update (2)

With a little over 2 weeks to go until the end of the Winter phase of our club virtual championship, the competition is heating up...

In the women’s event, Clair Howison has the honour of the fastest female over 5k with her 23:11 (17:55 handicap). With Clair’s run, the only addition, this means Rosemary Gallagher retains top spot, but Clair now sits joint second alongside Roisin Murray and Celine Addie-Lagorio in third.

In the Handicap, again Rosemary keeps her lead, however, it’s Roisin in a clear second with Clair and Celine joint third.

Paul Dudchenko is the biggest mover for the men with his 5-mile and 10k times. His 5-mile effort of 35:38 is the exact same time as Malcolm Hughes… but who would have won the sprint finish!? Paul’s 5-mile handicap time of 30:04 is also the best so far. Ian Fyfe joins the leaderboard this week with his 5-mile time of 36:24 (30:46 handicap).

In the 5k, Scott Cumming’s 23:12 is the fastest handicap (17:00). Geoff Pendrill got off the mark, with a 5k time of 22:24 (17:52 handicap).

Paul Dudchenko is the only 10k addition this week in 45:07 (38:17).

This means that Malcolm Hughes is now top of the male leaderboard, however, he has to share the lead with Paul, and Neil Anderson is pushed down to third.

In the Handicap, it’s Neil Anderson who this time has to share his lead with Paul and Malcolm in third.

Don’t forget to submit your times using our form and good luck.

Virtual Club Championship - Winter update (1)

At the end of the first month of the Winter phase of our club virtual championship, the weather has finally broken (for a few days at least) so we have some scores on the board.

The Winter phase is an opportunity to race over 5k, 5-mile and 10k on a route of your choice, with the best 2 performances being counted. The Winter phase continues to the end of March so you’ve got plenty time to get racing... but don't leave it too late.

So far we’ve had some of the usual suspects and some new members competing.

Roisin Murray and Celine Addie-Lagorio are the first 10kers for the women in 52:23 and 1:11:54, respectively. Rosemary Gallagher has completed the 5k (24:29) and the 5-mile (42:18) distances, putting her in top spot so far with Roisin in 2nd and Celine, 3rd.

In the Handicap, Rosemary is also top being the only woman to complete 2 events so far. Her 5k and 5-mile Handicap times are 17:38 and 30:27. Roisin’s 10k Handicap time of 36:02 puts her slightly ahead of Celine in 36:31.

Martin Hawksey is our fastest male over 5k with his 19:42, followed by Malcolm Hughes, as always, quietly going about knocking off the races, and 2nd fastest with his 21:56 5k time. Neil Anderson has in true Neil Anderson fashion, already completed all three distances! Neill has completed his 5k of 22:00, 5-mile in 35:59 (2nd fastest) and the only men’s 10k time logged, in 45:07. Malcolm Hughes completed his 5-mile effort in the current fastest time of 35:38. Good to see Colin Sumpter is back to racing (virtually) and completed his 5k in 22:33. Currently, Malcolm and Neil are joint top with Martin and Colin chasing.

In the Handicap, Neil has a slender lead as his lone 10k (37:44) putting him top, and his 5-mile is the fastest Handicap (30:06), with Malcolm second (21:56 5k, 30:14 5-mile) and then Martin (17:49 5k) and Colin (18:08 5k).

Still all to run for until the end of March.

Virtual Race Series - December Results!

Happy new year to everyone. Well done to all our virtual festive handicappers over the month of December and the Christmas period.

As this marks the end of our 2020 virtual races, I would like to thank everyone involved, including all the participants. It has been a pleasure to gather all the results and see everyone both working hard and getting involved. We hope you have enjoyed the challenges, even though we'd all prefer to have actual races. It's been great to see the competitive spirit still very much alive in Linlithgow Athletics Club and I hope that all your hard work in 2020 will bring rewards in real races in 2021.

We will be taking a break from virtual racing this month as we decide as a club how to approach this year's club championships. Keep an eye out for further details. In the meantime, here are the December results…

14k route

Well done to Grace Molloy, who has shown everyone a clean pair of trail shoes by setting the outright fastest time for the 2 loops of beecraigs. She posted a time well under the hour mark in 59:07. Fantastic running. She was the only woman to complete the 2 loops, but given her performance, the win was probably a foregone conclusion.

On the men's side, Paul Hammond is our fastest 2 looper in 1:02:10 (57:18) which is also the fastest handicap time. Well done, Paul. Paul Dudchenko's time of 1:09:54 keeps him in 2nd place in both scratch and handicap, and it's Ian Fyfe who takes 3rd in 1:11:04 (1:00:04). David Reade the only additional 2 looper with his 1:21:18 (1:04:23)

7k route

For our single loopers (not easier... just faster!), Clair Howison continues her recent good form to set the fastest time of 36:55 (28:32) and the 2nd place in the handicap. Frances wood ran 37:23 for 2nd place but also the fastest handicap time of 27:29. Those results push Mandy Cazes to 3rd in both scratch and handicap. Gillian MacDonald and Linzi Matheson seemed to have made the route much more challenging (as if it needed to be) by doing their effort in the dark! They recorded 51:51 and 52:14 (32:45, 30:47), respectively. Well done ladies.

For the men, Martin Maginnis left it until the last day to put in the fastest time in 32:06 (28:42) which also was the fastest handicap time. Well done, Martin. That knocked Martin Hawksey off the top and Neil Anderson to 3rd. David Reade's time of 39:16 (31:06) completes the roster

Well done to everyone on what was a tough course in often challenging December conditions. Hope to see you all in 2021.

Virtual Race Series - December update

With 4 days to go before our Virtual Race Series comes to a close for 2020 here’s an update on your efforts so far....

The December race is a route of which is normally a popular post-Christmas race (blowout) on our doorstep up at Beecraigs. We’ve had a few attempts so far, some have even been brave enough to venture out on Boxing Day in what was less than ideal conditions!

For the 7k route.... Mandy Cazes has set the benchmark for the women with her 38:38 (33:59 handicap). I'm sure we'll have a few more ladies performances to announce over the next few days… hopefully.

3 men have ran the 7k route with new member Martin Hawksey the fastest so far in 32:34 (29:28), Neil Anderson in 2nd in 37:05 (31:01) with Roddy Simpson 3rd in 46:54 (29:28). The order of the Handicap, as you can see, is the same.

3 hardy souls have ran the double loop of 14k. Neil Anderson has continued is MO by getting involved in all the races to do the double loop as well (I wouldn't be surprised if he did both on the same day) in 01:12:58 (1:01:02). He currently sits in 3rd. It’s also no surprise to see XC stalwart Paul Dudchenko and Orienteering specialist Paul Hammond in the top 2 spots at the moment. Paul D in 1:09:54 (59:00) with Paul H the fastest so far in 01:02:10 (57:18).

A few more days of 2020 virtual races to go.... remember, leave it all out on the trail.

Virtual Race Series - November Results!

it’s been a wet, windy and cold Novemer. Once again, a busy last few days with lots of last ditch performances to get through and find our november winners…

Paul Hammond was the only male runner to complete the lagoon loop this week, completing in 23:08 (21:37) and was the 2nd fastest time around the course - well done. Lots of muddy legs for the women... Clair Howison's 29:02 (26:14) put her into 2nd place in both the scratch and handicap table. Kathryn Holm was just behind her in 30:12 (29:19). Tracy Curle ran 32:55 (27:34), Linzi Matheson 48:25 (32:56) and Gillian McDonald 50:06 (37:08).

James Hammond keeps getting faster and ran what I think is the only sub 18 min round the reverse 5k route in 17:58 (17:58) for top spot. Paul Hammond 19:34 (18:17) for 2nd and Martin Maginnis a solid 20:12 (19:02) for 3rd. Neil Barnes kept it under 21 mins for his 20:53 (18:38) and Ian Fyfe continuing his good form with 21:25 (18:53). Roddy Simpson ran 26:42 (19:35).

Lynsey Hay didn't quite make it a royal flush of bettering last months time but her 20:52 (20:50) was still enough for the fastest time. Kathryn Holm's 21:59 (21:20) earned her second spot and Clair Howison in 22:45 (20:33) takes 3rd and the 2nd handicap time. Joyce Tannahill's 24:45 (20:27) took the fastest handicap time and Linzi Matheson finished in 30:06 (20:29).

Lots of 30 min challenges to report...

Lynsey Hay ran a distance of 4.40 miles (4.41) for the furthest distance, but has to settle for 3rd in the handicap behind Clair Howison's 4.54 (4.1 scratch) and Linzi Matheson's 4.44 (3.02 scratch). Kathryn Holm ran 4.22 (4.35 handicap), Gillian McDonald 3.1 (4.18 handicap) and Mandy 3.78 (4.28 handicap).

Very closely packed in the men's table… apart from James Hammond that is, who smashed through the 5 mile barrier with 5.13 miles (5.13). Keeping it in the family, Paul Hammond ran 4.77 (5.10) with Martin Maginnis 4.68 (4.97). Neil Anderson ran 4.42 miles to record the furthest handicap of 5.15miles. New Member Martin Hawksey ran 4.41 (4.70) and Paul Emery hot on his tail with 4.40 (4.88). Malcolm Hughes ran 4.28 (4.99 handicap) on his 2nd attempt and Ian Fyfe ran 4.18 (4.74).

Remembering that its the best 2 events that count… this means our November winners are:

Overall:

  • 1st - James Hammond and Lynsey Hay.

  • 2nd - Paul Hammond and Kathryn Holm.

  • 3rd - Martin Maginnis and Clair Howison.

Handicap:

  • 1st - James Hammond and Clair Howison

  • 2nd - Neil Anderson and jointly between Lynsey Hay and Linzi Matheson

  • 3rd - Paul Hammond and Mandy Cazes.

Here is a sneak preview of the December trail course from our king of the small screen.

Virtual Race Series - November race update (2)

A few more results to add to the leaderboards this week with just over a week of racing in November to go.

Mandy Cazes and Lynsey Hay have both completed the now very soggy lagoon loop. Mandy in a time of 32:25 (28:38) and Lynsey in 24:48 (24:46). Impressive times on what appears to be a course that's not going to get any easier - well done to both for getting out there in the mud. The lagoon was Mandy's 2nd event this month and so takes her to the top of the leaderboard. Young James Hammond has continued his great form into this month, showing us all how to do it with a very impressive 20:54 (20:54) for the fastest time around the lagoon course so far. Neil Barnes the only other male result this week with his 26:28 (23:37).

Clair Howison remains the only woman to have tackled the 30 min challenge. Paul Dudchenko has had a second go and increased his distance to 4.4miles (taking his handicap over the 5 mile mark to 5.02). David Mumford has also had a go at the 30 min challenge covering 3.75 miles in the time, giving him a handicap distance exactly the same as Malcolm Hughes of 4.92 miles.

Malcolm Hughes is the only male to try the 5k this week with his 21:20 (18:18) which, combined with James Hammond's lagoon time, knocks Neil Anderson off top spot. Finally, Tracy Curle is the only woman to complete the 5k course this month, with her 25:23 (21:15). Well done folks.

So a bit of a shake-up in the tables, but once again, looks like it's going to go down to the last few days.

Virtual Race Series - November race update (1)

We’re half way through November and only a few performaces on the board. as usual it looks like athletes are keeping their best until the end of the month.

Neil Anderson sits at the top of the mens tables having done both the lagoon loop and the 5k. He's the fastest round both (albeith the only 5k entry so far) with his times of 24:32 for the lagoon and 21:39 for the 5k. He's also top of the handicap with his conversion times of 21:02 and 18:34 for the lagoon and 5k, respectively.

The ubiquitous Paul Dudchenko has also got his trail shoes out for teh lagoon loop and ran 25:26 (22:17) and Ian Fyfe continuing his good form with a 27:19 (24:05)

Paul Dudchenko and Malcolm Hughes have given the 30 min challenge a go and it would have been a close run race. Paul covered 4.27 miles whereas Malcolm 4.22. The result is reversed in the handicap with Malcolm 4.92 miles and Paul 4.87.

No lagoon results for the ladies so far. I suspect they're all sharpening their spikes for a proper go. Clair Howison has given the 30min challenge a go and covered 4.1 miles (4.54 handicap). Mandy Cazes and Gillian MacDonald the only 5k performances in 23:26 and 28:02 respectively (20:50 and 20:47 handicap...close stuff)

Keep your results coming in… here are the scores on the doors so far.

Scottish Athletics Virtual 3k Challenge

lindsvirtual.jpg

This week’s saw members taking part in the scottish athletics Lindsays Virtual Road Challenge over last weekend (5-10 Nov).

There were over 1000 performances logged for the 3k distance aimed at older age groups and shorter distances for younger athletes. With competitive action at a premium, entries were logged from across the length and breadth of Scotland. The challenge had the added incentive of providing qualification to the Lindsays Short Course XC which are still planned for the weekend of December 5/6 (venue TBC).

8 Linlithgow AC athletes took on the 3k challenge, and some as part of the Club’s own time trial event at Craigswood track, Livingston, on Tuesday evening. For many this was their first taste of a track event and wetted the apptetite for more when normality resumes.

Provisional results as follows: John Redding (09:33), James Hammond (10:11), Lynsey Hay (11:38), Mandy Cazes (12:56), Clair Howison (13:16), Frances Wood (13:24), Scott Cumming (13:31) and Lorna Simpson (14:02).

Well done to all Linlithgow AC runners and particularly to our qualifiers for the National Short Course Championships!

Virtual Race Series - October Results!

The end of October is here, and we've had a stampede of entries for the virtual races. Keeping it exciting right up until the last day. So here goes...

Beecraigs Trail Race

Lynsey Hay, once again showed her form and class to storm round the beecraigs route in a very impressive 33:52 which was also good enough for 2nd handicap (33:36) to take maximum points on both routes. Clair Howison dipped just under the 40min mark in 39:46 (36:11) for 3rd place, narrowly missing out on Kathryn Holm's 39:35 2nd place marker. Next up was Mandy Cazes in 40:22 (36:42) and then one of our new recruits Rebecca Hammond in 41:02 to take the handicap win in 32:07. Well done Rebecca. Tracy Curle managed the 2 lap course in 42:46 (35:48), Linzi Matheson in 51:53, for 3rd overall handicap in 35:10. Gillian McDonald in 52:03 (37:18) and Roberta Whyte in 53:17 (38:30).

James Hammond, calling on his orienteering experience, set the fastest trail time of 30:02 which was also the 2nd fastest handicap time of 29:40. Martin Maginnis was 2nd over the line, probably before lots were awake, in 31:46 to take the fastest handicap by 7 seconds from James in 29:33. Malcolm Hughes ran 37:08 (31:21) and next across the line was Neil Barnes, who ran quickly but unfortunately added a wee bit extra onto his run, but still managed to get under 40min in 39:52 (36:11). Scott Hyslop, returning to some virtual racing this month ran 42:20 (35:58).

5k Road Race

Lynsey Hay and Clair Howison hold onto their 1st and 2nd spots respectively. Mandy Cazes came in third with her 23:30 (21:22). Rebecca Hammond, with what looks to be her first run around the 5k course, ran 25:20 to add the 5k handicap win (19:50) to her trail handicap victory. Linzi Matheson tackled the reverse route in 30:46 (20:51)

James Hammond, like Lynsey Hay, is looking like an immovable object at the top of the leaderboard as he also ran the fastest 5k in 18:41 (18:28). However, he would have been pushed all the way by Ian Logan just 7 seconds back in 18:48 (18:48). Neil Barnes was just outside the 21 mark with 21:03 (19:06) for the 3rd fastest male 5k. Ian Fyfe just a few seconds back in 21:19, which took the handicap win in 17:42.

The results

  • James Hammond and Lynsey Hay are once again our October Champions.

  • Paul Dudchenko and Clair Howison take silver.

  • Ian Fyfe and Mandy Cazes take bronze.

  • Rebecca Hammond and Ian Fyfe are our monthly handicap winners

  • David Mumford and Lynsey Hay take the handicap silver

  • Lynsey Matheson and James Hammond come home for the bronze handicap.

Well done to all our competitors!
