Virtual Club Championship - Winter Results!

A fantastic final week of virtual racing with around 40 individual performances to add to the leaderboards. Some very close racing with just a few seconds separating some results, and others being unable to be separated.

What a competition amongst the women, with the top 3 5km times separated by only 10 seconds. Lynsey Hay complemented her fine 5-mile run with an impressive 20:23 5km. Kathryn Holm was hot on Lynsey’s heels with her own 20:30 5km. Meaning Lynne McGill was now 3rd fastest 5km (but only just, at 20:34).

However, Lynne responded by recording the 2nd fastest 5-mile time of 34:17. Karen Duncan ran the 3rd fastest 5-mile time, in 37:23; following it up with a 22:54 5km too.

As a reminder, Kathryn Holm put down the fastest 10k in 43:57, Clair Howison 2nd in 48:06 with Claire Rice 3rd in 49:04.

For the men, Chris Duffy ran the fastest 5km in 18:45, just 11 seconds faster than Martin Maginnis’ 18:56, who responded with the fastest 10km in 39:30.

To show that it really could be anyone’s on any day, Martin Hawksey ran the fastest 5-mile in 31:38; meaning 3 different men finished top of each distance.

Paul Emery ran the second-fastest 5-mile, in 35:33 (Just 5 seconds quicker than Malcolm Hughes' and Paul Dudchenko's times of 35:38).

So, after all that who were our Winter champions?

For the women: Lynsey Hay was first place, Kathryn Holm takes 2nd and Lynne McGill in third.

And the men: Chris Duffy and Martin Maginnis tied first place, with Martin Hawksey in 3rd. 

Now onto the Handicap competition

 
 

The Handicap competition has again been as close as ever with just a few second separating athletes.

Chris Duffy’s 5km performance was the best handicap time (16:50) pushing Martin Maginnis back into 2nd (16:56) with Scott Cummings 17:00 in third. 

In the 5-mile it was Scott who ran the fastest handicap (28:04) with Martin Hawksey’s time 2nd (28:37) and Graham Chambers in 3rd (29:20). 

The 10km, it was Martin Maginnis’ fantastic time that tops the 10km handicap leader board (35:19) pushing Chris Duffy down to 2nd (36:17) and Martin Hawksey 3rd (37:06).

Gayle Hamilton ran the fastest handicap 5km in an equivalent 15:40. Kathryn Holm took 2nd fastest 5km (16:22) with Roisin Murray 3rd (16:55). 

Claire Rice has held onto the fastest handicap 5-mile (27:49). Lynsey Hay has held onto 2nd (28:04) and Roisin Murray takes 3rd with 28:32. 

The top 3 10km performances remain unchanged with Claire Rice (34:23), Kathryn Holm (35:06) and Roisin Murray (36:02).

Chris Duffy and Martin Maginnis once again tied in first, with Scott Cumming in 3rd.

For the women: Claire Rice in 1st place, Kathryn Holm takes 2nd and Roisin Murray and Lynsey Hay share 3rd place.

It’s now onto the Spring stage of our Virtual Championships. 3 more distances to choose from: 3km, 10km and Half Marathon distance. The same rules.
