Monthly Handicap Race

The Club’s Monthly Handicap race is an opportunity to race fellow members but most of all have fun. We have two courses over the year - a winter and summer route - each providing its own challenges! The race takes place on the last Thursday of the month.

How it works

  • Your task is to run the 3.8km route. We have a summer and winter route.

  • The faster runners are handicapped by time, so everyone has a chance of winning. Every month you collect points towards the annual championship.

  • Your time will be recorded on the evening against your handicap and the collated results will be shared on Facebook and in the weekly email to members.

If you aren't already on our handicap list, just email Alison Marshall and she can add you to the list. Everyone is welcome to join in.

The routes

We have two routes for the race, one for the lighter summer months and one which is better lit for the darker days of winter. Both with their own unique challenges.

Summer Route

Start and finish at the bench under the big tree on the Peel beside the loch. Run clockwise around the Loch, up onto Blackness Road, take a right and head back toward the town. Hang a right down to the Peel before the St Michael’s RC church, finishing where you started.

Winter Route

Start and finish at the entrance to the Low Port and again is approximately 3.8km long (Head up Blackness road to the top entrance of Sprinfield Estate, follow the main road which loops you back toward Blackness then back toward town and the Low Port.
