Coaching update: Changes to coaching set-up and offering


This is the current line-up (with UKathletics or jogscotland qualifications noted) and we’re always on the look out for more people to train as coaches to work with adults and youths, or children. Please do contact Frances if you’d like to start your coaching journey.

1:1 Coaching:-

We can’t offer much of this as a Club, but you are welcome to approach any of the coaches. Frances is willing to provide advice on training or general fitness to any members but may also have capacity to offer more tailored training support to a few – so if anyone wants to have a chat about this, please get in touch.

Let’s Go Linlithgow (LGL):-

The Club has officially adopted LGL as its jogscotland wing. It’s a service to our local community which aims to get people from couch to 5k – then onwards! It’s free and if you know anyone who’d like to get into running – do put them in touch! Alex, Roddy and Rachel are running a Friday morning 5k-10k group just now and plan to start another couch to 5k in the autumn. More info from Alex or Roddy and from the LGL Facebook page - And big thanks to Lorna Simpson for getting this up and running!

Handicap Race - Sweep Runner Required:-

We’re keen to encourage runners of all standards age 14 plus, to join in the fun of our monthly handicap race which is organised by Alison Marshall. But we want to make sure no-one gets left out on the course if they have to stop running, so we’re introducing a sweep runner position. This person will make sure everyone gets back to the finish, and walk in with anyone who needs some company or support. We do need volunteers – so please watch out for Alison’s post on Facebook and get in touch with Alison now if you’d be up for volunteering.

Thursday Coached Sessions – Week 2 for Beginners - Starting October 2019:-

We’re delighted to recruit so many new members this year, and some of them have come direct from LGL. All our coached sessions – whether on the track or in the town - are open to runners of all standards and we try to be as inclusive as possible. But in response to requests for sessions which are particularly suitable for beginners, the second Thursday session in each month is just that! Watch out for details on Facebook and on the Club’s training calendar.

XC Sessions – Volunteers Needed – Starting September:-

The Cross Country season starts in October and we think it would be a good idea to run some ‘intro to XC’ sessions to prepare people who are new to XC and want to give it a go. The suggestion is a Saturday afternoon in Rosemount Park. We need a volunteer who’s experienced in running XC – anyone up for organising a couple of sessions, please contact Frances Wood or David Marshall.

Twice Monthly Paced Runs – Start October / November – Volunteers Needed:-

In response to requests for a Tuesday run which is structured and paced and helps beginners or improvers keep going during the winter, we’re planning to introduce paced runs on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, at that same time as the existing Tuesday social runs.

Mike Watts and Ian Fyfe will lead on this and are working on details just now with Angus Gallie – so please watch out for further news on our Facebook page/webpage – and contact them and if you’d like to volunteer as a pacer.

Additional Track Session each month – Share your views:-

We’re interested in your views about a third track session subject to availability of coaches – possibly running the same session on the Tuesday and Thursday of week 3 each month. Please contact Frances if you’d be interested in this – and whether an earlier time of 18.00 and a different venue – Craigswood - would be attractive? I also plan to discuss with LGL members any interest they may have in a dedicated track session for beginners.
