WJM Linlithgow 10k 2019
6th October 2019 @ 2:30pm
Entries are open
The WJM Linlithgow 10K and Junior Fun Run is a prestigious and long running community road running event organised by Linlithgow Athletic Club. Each year around 40% of competitors are from the local area.
The event raises a modest amount of money that is used to help fund the work the club does in promoting and providing opportunities for athletics in our community. No individuals within our organisation gain financially from the event in any way.
Due to course restrictions only the first 800 entries will be accepted.
Please note that entries are non-refundable.
Runners who anticipate finishing after 1 hour and 15 minutes should be aware that there will be a 'sweeper' cyclist travelling at around this pace to indicate the opening of the road to traffic. After the cyclist passes runners can of course continue to complete the course exercising caution and proceeding as a prudent and careful pedestrian.
For logistical reasons there will be a strict time limit for the 10k of 1 hour and 40 minutes. The course and finish area will be dismantled in accordance to this so please do not enter if you cannot achieve this finish time.
RACE START POINT
The race starts in Linlithgow High Street and finishes in the historic Linlithgow Palace Peel area.
RACE NUMBER & TIMING CHIP
Your race bib number with timing chip incorporated must be collected on the day of the race, between 12pm – 1.30pm at the Race HQ, Linlithgow Burgh Halls, The Cross, Linlithgow EH49 7AH. This is in the centre of town, not far from the start. Follow signs on the day.
Inclement Weather Provision
The Burgh Halls has been booked for registration purposes only and runners are obliged to leave the building once this process has been completed. In the event of inclement weather runners can seek cover in the nearby St Michael's Parish Church Hall (accessed via the Vennel Car Park).
The entry process in Entry Central will allow an entrant to transfer their entry to someone they know. Once the event fills they will be able to transfer to someone on the waiting list.
TRAVEL and PARKING
Linlithgow is a well connected town with access to both M9 and M8 motorways. Linlithgow railway station is a short walk from the start and finish. There are several car parks in the town. Examples: (1) New station overflow car park off the Edinburgh Road to the east of the town (adjacent to cricket club). (2) Long stay car park adjacent to Tesco's. (3) Loch-side car parks, accessed from Water Yett and St Ninians Way. (4) The Vennel car park at the Cross (charges).
Toilet facilities are available at the Burgh Halls. Additional toilet facilities will be available at the nearby St Michael's Parish Church Hall (accessed via the Vennel Car Park). Alternative arrangements have also been made with the Low Port Centre a few minutes walk east along the High Street (opposite Tesco).
ASSEMBLY AND MUSTER
All competitors should be assembled at The Cross, by 2:10pm. There will be signs on the day to direct the runners towards this. Following the pre-race briefing, runners will be led to the start area. Please be aware that these arrangements differ from last year. Please follow start instructions given by officials. There are no changing and showering facilities available, so make sure that you know where or with whom you leave your belongings. The race will start at 2:30pm by the sound of a klaxon.
Linlithgow is a fairly hilly town, and the route is undulating and quite challenging. It is advisable to study the route plan and if possible familiarise yourself with the terrain. The route narrows behind the loch, and this makes overtaking difficult during this part of the race, which is around the halfway point. Please obey the signals and directions given by route stewards – for safety reasons please do not wear headphones.
All distance markers for the race will be shown in kilometres. 10 kilometres is approximately 6.2 miles
There will be a water station on the course and at the finish of the race.
Linlithgow Athletic Club is extremely grateful for the support of the following organisations: - Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP , Linlithgow Academy, Express Micro Science, Tunnocks, Life Fit Wellness, Run 4 It, McNicoll Vehicle Hire, Tesco and Casra Sports.
The event is held under licence from Scottish Athletics.
